I wanted to try running these stripes horizontally.
What do you think?

The last time that I stopped by the Dollar Tree, I splurged and picked up two packages of napkins. I was so excited about the pink and zebra striped print, I didn’t even mention the print I found in the display of Memorial Day supplies.
Unfortunately the print won’t be as fun as I first hoped, most of the stars aren’t square with the stripes, and the stripes don’t have consistent widths. Miniature kites always provide a challenge, and sometimes more than one.
Here is the first of the kites from the print. Despite being a Star kite, it is actually a larger, freehand shape, to allow for a border around the Henna style blue star from the print.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been unable to keep up with daily posts.
However, I have still been making a kite every day in my recognition of National Kite Month. Now that I have a day off, it’s time to catch up with my posting.
This print just keeps on giving.
Here is a little zebra striped star.

I’ve had so much fun with this print so far, that I decided it was time for a star.

I wanted to see about changing the frame for the star design, the lower points on the previous kites have been vulnerable to wear.
This time I ran spars from the top point down to the trailing points. Unfortunately this made the kite a little too stiff and a little too heavy.
It still flies alright, just not as well as the previous ones with the simpler structure.

Since I’ve covered most of my basic designs, I wanted to make a star. I like the way the red stripe works along the spine.

With the passing of my friend Ron Despojado last week, I wanted to make a starĀ shaped kite very badly. However, I hadn’t made a star before, and I was under some other time constraints, so I went with a shape I was more familiar with.
Today I made a little time to give the star shape a try, and got a nice kite on the first attempt. I couldn’t avoid one of the dots in the print, but nothing is perfect (and I kind of like the little break in symmetry).
