This little guy flies well, but I won’t chalk it up as one of my faves.
I tried inverting what I did with the previous kite, and added a torn trailing edge as well, but it doesn’t quite work for me.

2 inch Sotich Shield kite, cocktail napkin.
This little guy shows off why I was so excited about this print. It’s rare to have 3 classic graphic elements in such proximity to fit on sails this small.
While I myself am not a huge fan of pink polka dots or zebra stripes, it’s refreshing to have iconic material that really works for me.

I found an exciting new napkin pattern a couple weeks ago at the Dollar Tree, and finally picked up a package with tips from my new job. Here’s the first kite using only one element from the print.

2 inch Sotich Star kite, striped cocktail napkin.
I wanted to see about changing the frame for the star design, the lower points on the previous kites have been vulnerable to wear.
This time I ran spars from the top point down to the trailing points. Unfortunately this made the kite a little too stiff and a little too heavy.
It still flies alright, just not as well as the previous ones with the simpler structure.

4.5 inch 3-stick kite, striped cocktail napkin.
After so many basic designs, I needed to break out and make a 3-stick kite. Since I’m trying to break a mold, I played with a thought that ventured further from traditional designs than I have with my previous kites. In the process I wound up making a miniature version of a modern French kite called a Bumba.
This isn’t the best flyer I’ve made, but the shape is pretty different and gets to show off the wavy aspect of this print.

Since I’ve covered most of my basic designs, I wanted to make a star. I like the way the red stripe works along the spine.

While I’ve been having fun with the stripes in this print, the green in this sail made me think “color block”, so I made the sail a little smaller to emphasize it.

Well Spring has sprung here in Lincoln City. Even more businesses have advertised for help lately, which filled much of my time filling out applications, and most of the rest of my time has been filled preparing for a part time position I accepted at the local fitness center and golf course.
I managed to make a kite everyday, but the only day I’ve had time to post them, I spent lying around with aching muscles. Many of them are pretty simple, but there are some fun little twists so enjoy the next few posts.

This little guy is a basic Sotich Eddy with the striped cocktail napkin I’ve been using, but I wanted to orient the stripes a little differently. I’m pleased with the way it turned out.
